Cirrus Des Aigles sets the standard in this race. Over the last few years he has been one of the best horses in Europe. I have seen him run a number of times and I’m not worried about the firm ground, I think he handles it perfectly. However I am worried about his age. He’s a seven year old and I can’t be backing a horse of his age to win a group one. Since this race was first run in 1951 nearly 90% of the winners have been three or four year olds, the oldest winner was six.

With that in mind I’m siding with TRADING LEATHER. His Irish Derby win was the third fastest 12f time in history. There should be a strong pace in this with Ektihaam and Universal going off in front. He’ll need to improve to win this but at the prices I’m happy to back him and believe he will improve.
