August has started well with three winning markets from three played, I’m now looking to end Glorious Goodwood with one last winner.

I keep looking at this race and trying to see if there is a ‘clever’ angle and I can make a case for a number of them. However I keep coming back to SKY LANTERN. She is the form horse in the race! She was unlucky at Newmarket last time out when she was carried across the track by Elusive Kate (Prix Rothschild winner last week) and that result would have been reversed in any other country. The piece of form that I was taken with was her Ascot win in The Coronation Stakes, she powered clear and didn’t look like stopping as she pulled away from the field. This is the first time she would of raced at this distance but I don’t think that’ll be an issue when looking at that Ascot race again.
She’s already won at Goodwood so handling the undulations won’t be an issue. There was some rain last night but the ground is still Good, Good to Firm in places, with no more rain forecast and a strong wind I think she’ll handle the ground fine. The last piece of the puzzle is Richard Hannon, eight winners this week, and Richard Hughes, seven winners. They are again the form trainer and jockey combo at this meeting so I’d rather be with them here than against them.
Sky Lantern has the Group One form, she is trained by the trainer you’d want and ridden by the weeks leading jockey. She may not win but I’d be kicking myself if I didn’t back her and she goes onto win.
