The Championship – 3rd & 4th August

Finally the football season is back! The first weekend is always one that you need to be careful. I’ve whittled my original list of bets down to the two matches below. Hopefully we can start the season off well and get a run going. One thing I am sure of there will be up and down along the way, trust me I’m a Palace fan.

Anybody who read my ante-post preview will know exactly why I don’t rate Bournemouth that highly. Therefore it seems reasonable to start taking them on early in the season. For this game they could be without likely top goalscorer Brett Pitman and with the lack of goals in their side they are already on the back foot.

Charlton come into this after finishing last season like a train, unbeaten in eight games, to finish a respectable ninth. They also haven’t lost on the road since February and that was against Hull who went up in May. For some reason Bournemouth have been priced up like they are of equal ability to Charlton. I don’t see it. In Marvin Sordell and Simon Church Charlton have signed two players who are right up there in terms of quality at this level.

I think that Charlton’s experience and added quality will get them a result here and I’d have them nearer the 2.70 mark. However as it’s the first game of the season I’m going to add in some caution to my betting in this matchup.

[symple_box color=”green” text_align=”center” width=”100%” float=”none”] Back Charlton at 3.50 – Bet 365 (20% of total stake)[/symple_box]

[symple_heading type=”h4″ title=”Derby v Blackburn” margin_top=”20px;” margin_bottom=”20px” text_align=”left”]

Derby are a side who I believe can have a good season and challenge for the play-offs, they finished last season well and if they can improve on the road they’ll be up there. However they start the season against the side who I fancy to win the league. Blackburn were undone my many things last season and I’m not going to go into them as they’re well known.

This season it looks as though everyone at the club from owners to supporters are singing from the same song sheet. They have signed well and I think that they are being judged by last seasons shambles in this match. I wouldn’t have Blackburn any bigger than 3.75 for this so I’m surprised to see them on offer at 4.33.  Any side with Jordan Rhodes in it will always pose a goal threat and at the price I want to side with them.
