York Ebor Meeting Day 1

Al Kazeem is a horse I really like, I’ve been successful in backing him in each of his four wins this year and if it wasn’t for TORONADO I’d be backing him again here. I was down at Goodwood for Toronado’s win in the Sussex Stakes and what struck me that day was how he didn’t look like stopping. There are question marks over whether he’ll see this trip out but the more I watch that days race, the more I feel he won’t have any issues with 10 furlongs. He is also out of 2002 Derby winner High Chaparral, so there are strong indications from his breeding that he’ll stay the trip.

The form line that ties Al Kazeem and Toronado together is one involving Declaration of War. Back in early July Al Kazeem beat Declaration of War over 10f by two lengths. In the Sussex Stakes Toronado beat Declaration of War by three lengths going away. Those two pieces of form take Declaration of War out of this race.

Trading Leather needs a strong pace and without a natural front runner in the field he may have to make the running himself, which won’t be ideal. He had Hillstar held in the King George and it’s hard to see either of them him improving enough to beat both Toronado and Al Kazeem. Rewarded doesn’t come into the reckoning as he doesn’t have the class of the others in this race.

Toronado ticks the boxes I’m looking for in this race and I expect him to go of shorter, which ties in nicely with my post on value.

I posted the below on twitter earlier today, so well done if you followed and got the price. However if you didn’t I’m expecting Toronado to go off favourite and advise taking the 2.75 (7/4).

With quick ground and a healthy weight for age allowance I fully expect him to be last off the bridal and using his turn of foot to win this.
