Newmarket 27th September

Looking through today’s card it reminded me of Day Two of the Grand National meeting back in April. That day I advised four horses all favourites but they all won, they may have been short prices but they were all value in my book which is why I backed them. I see no reason to not do the same today as I feel the favourites are the most likely winners and also offer the best ‘value’.

RADIATOR is a lightly raced two-year-old fillie and she looks a very progressive type. The form line I am taking for this race takes in a horse called Wedding Ring, the Godolphin horse has been entered into some big races against some of the top class two year olds this year. She won at Newmarket on Saturday with a horse called Zawiyah back in fourth place. Radiator beat Zawiyah by 15 lengths at Lingfield at the beginning of the month. A repeat of that form and she should have two much for most of these, half of which look exposed.

Montridge done me favour when winning at Glorious Goodwood last month and he’s stepping up to Group 2 class for the first time today. However after he bombed out less than three weeks ago at Haydock I can’t be backing him in genuine Group 2 quality. SOFT FALLING RAIN came over over from South Africa with a big reputation, after winning 7 from 7. On his first start in England last month he was beaten by Gregorian in the Hungerford Stakes, there’s no shame in that defeat as Gregorian has shown good form all year. I expect Soft Falling Rain to come on for that run and win here.

RIZEENA was a nice winner for me at Royal Ascot when she won over five furlongs. After Ascot she went to The Newmarket July course where she was fancied but finished 2nd. That was followed by a 3rd behind the classy No Nay Never at Deauville in August. On her last start she won a Group 1 at The Curragh with Royal Ascot winner Kiyoshi behind, over seven furlongs. Rizeena has had a long season racing but she looks so far clear of the rest of these that she should be able to run about six pounds below her best and still win.

The treble also pays about 12/1 so I’ll also have some on that to make some beer money
