JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

I was tempted to back Vettel at 1.66 in this as he will win the race, unless Webber takes him off at the 1st corner. However if I was Mark Webber I’d be more concerned about getting the start right, he fails off the grid so many times that it’s hard to see Vettel being behind him for too long. Once Vettel gets a two second lead, about two laps in he won’t be caught.

That leaves two podium places up for grabs. I looked at the podium finish markets which had Webber at 1.50, Hamilton at 2,25 and Grosjean at 2.88. I couldn’t be backing Webber at odds-on for this due to his tendency to either blow the start or get in race issues. I’m still not completely convinced that the Mercedes is over it’s tyre issues nor do I like backing Lewis Hamilton, especially when he has no chance of winning the championship. That leaves me with Roman Grosjean, he was impressive in Korea last weekend and has the added bonus of a Renault engine.

I was going to leave it at that thinking that Grosjean will pass Hamilton at some point and land a podium finish, however I think that both of them will pass Mark Webber at the start. Webber is also the number two driver so his race tactics will be compromised by what Vettel wants. That leaves me thinking that Grosjean can get 2nd place in this race. At odds of 7.50 for him in the without Vettel market, I think that is the way to go.
