This is a pretty simple one for me, I backed Sunderland to go down this season and I’ve still seen nothing to change my mind. They got Gus Poyet in and had a ‘bounce’ where they fluked wins over Newcastle and Manchester City and they can’t get results like that every week. They have one point from their six away games this season and that came at Southampton where they should have conceded at least three or four.

Villa are now unbeaten in three games and although they were struggling to score goals they are not as bad as Sunderland, they’ve also now score two in each of their last two matches. I can see Sunderland giving them enough chances for them to get at least the one goal that will win this match. Villa beat Cardiff 2-0 in their last home game and I see something very similar here.

Palace got the result that they needed last weekend and they look like they have now learnt to defend. I think long term Palace are better defensively than Norwich on average Palace concede a whole shot on target less than Norwich do per game and if they do what they did at Hull last week their should be no reason for them not to get something from the game. I don’t believe that their is much between these sides, in fact my pre-season review had Norwich getting relegated and Palace finishing ahead of them, something which is a distinct possibility I Palace can win this match. For Norwich to be a shorter price than Villa is ridiculous as they should be 2.15 at the absolute minimum.

I think that too much is being made over Fulham’s ‘crisis’ when you compare it to what is being said about West Ham. These clubs are in the same position on the same points yet the belief is that Fulham will go down and Jol will be sacked but West Ham can escape especially as they have Andy Carroll to come back. Andy Carroll is not that good!

But in the here and now West Ham don’t have Andy Carroll and they’re not scoring goals. Fulham have already gone to Crystal Palace and Sunderland and won this season, despite their historically bad away form. With Fulham having more goal scores in their side and my West Ham goal expectancy below 1, I don’t see why they are odds-on. I would have them 2.10 – 2.20, I don’t believe that Big Sam is a tactical genius who can get his team up for big games and I also don’t think the Upton Park crowd particularly lift the team, judging by their lifeless performance against Chelsea last week.
