Australian Open ATP & WTA Day 9

[symple_heading type=”h2″ title=”Tomas Berdych v David Ferrer” margin_top=”20px;” margin_bottom=”20px” text_align=”left”]

The odds in this look the wrong way round to me. Berdych is a very good player, he has a big serve and can cause any player problems with his ground strokes. However David Ferrer is the better player, he’s made three slam semis, four quarter-finals and one final in the last two years. By contrast Berdych has three quarters and one semi-final to show for his last eight slams. The longer this match goes on the stronger Ferrer will become and the mental cracks in Berdych will begin to show. Berdych has to win in three, maybe four at at push as if this goes to five sets Ferrer wins it.

[symple_heading type=”h2″ title=”Ana Ivanovic v Eugenie Bouchard” margin_top=”20px;” margin_bottom=”20px” text_align=”left”]

What price would Ana Ivanovic be if she hadn’t had to play Serena Williams in the last round. If she’d beaten a Kerber or Makarova she wouldn’t be 1.40 to win this she’d be 1.57 – 1.66. However she played Serena and beat her, but does that make her a better player than she was 3 days ago? No! Eugenie Bouchard is an up and coming star in the womans game and she is the ‘value’ in this match. She relishes being the underdog, hits powerfully from the baseline and has excellent court coverage. At 3.30 she has to be backed.
