Cheltenham Festival Day 4

A good day yesterday brought up three consecutive days of profit with Fingal Bay winning at 8.00(7/1) and Dynaste at 4.50 (7/2). Annie Power ran a great race and I was disappointed she got beat after going off at 2.38 and trading at 1.52. If I was a ‘trader’ I would have been screaming about the great green book that I got, but I’m not.

A quiet day for me  with only two plays, would be nice if both win but if I continue my weeks form only one will.

BRIAR HILL went silly short in the week, touching 2.00 in places, but he’s now gone out to 2.62. That price is just about long enough for me to get involved. He’s one that I’ve fancied for this race all season, he won the Bumper last year in impressive style and looks a bigger, better horse this year. He hasn’t really been tested in Ireland this year but has won all his races. The better ground should see him improve and I don’t see why there seem to be doubts about him staying as he won his maiden over three miles on soft to heavy ground.

King’s Palace is the obvious danger and he’s done nothing wrong this year, three wins from three and two of those at Cheltenham on good ground. Beyond them two there doesn’t look to be much in the race and I expect them to fill the first two places. However I’m sticking with the Mullins/Walsh/Novices combination, that produced Vautour and Faugheen.

Muddling form lines are a feature of this race, so I’m going back to last years’ Gold Cup form and backing BOBS WORTH. There’s not a lot of depth to the race this year, 2nd favourite Silviniaco Conti looks to be a horse who would prefer a flatter speedier track and Last Installment has question marks over whether he’ll like the ground. First Lieutenant isn’t up to this standard in my book .

Bobs Worth is five from five at the track and in what look a weaker race than last year he can be backed at 3.25. We know he stays and we know he has the class, so why isn’t he sub 2.50 (6/4)? I don’t know the answer to that but at the price I’ll back a horse who has been there and done it.

EDIT: Coral going 3.50 (5/2) Bobs Worth to win the Gold Cup, so I’m also taking advantage of that

In a a few of the other races I like;

1:30 – Calipto 9/2

2:05 – Lac Fontana 14/1

4:40 – Une Artiste 25/1

I’ll probably have a look at doing a few accumulators involving them just for some last day fun.
