Eurovision started well on Tuesday with a lay of Belgium to qualify at odds between 1.25 and 1.31 landed. Since then The Netherlands have crashed in the outright market, I can understand the logic of it doing well on iTunes however the price is ridiculously short now, especially if it lands spots 13 -16 in the running order. With Azerbaijan, Sweden and Armenia all being drawn in the first half for the final I still have Hungary and The UK as the ones I want to be on.
Prior to Tuesday I’d already backed Hungary each-way a couple of times and The UK for Top 10. Today Hungary drifted to 19.5 on Betfair so I topped up my Hungary back.
Semi-Final 2 is the weaker one, however that should mean we’ll have some potentially good betting opportunities. I think that Norway, Greece and Romania all qualify so I’m not looking to get them beaten nor am I looking to back them at 1.05. I also don’t have any strong views on any of them winning this semi.
I’m not going into this semi too much as there are a number of borderline songs, I’ve concentrated on finding one of the outsiders to qualify. That selection is Slovenia. I’m a fan of the song as it has memorable and powerful vocals, along with a late draw. With this heat only having 15 runners Tinkara Kovac, ‘only’ needs to finish ahead of 5 rivals.
If she is to get through then the short prices ones that are in danger will be Poland, Switzerland and Ireland. Ireland is by far the weakest of those three songs and I don’t even think they can rely on The UK for a good score. I would have priced Slovenia ahead of Ireland and for that reason they get my money on them to qualify.
As usual I’ll be on twitter this evening, ranting on about all sorts along with the occasional in-running bet.
