Royal Ascot Day 5

TELESCOPE must surely have another group win in him. The soft ground was against him earlier this season, when he finished second twice to Noble Mission. Telescopes’ best piece of form is his Great Voltigeur win at York last season, a repeat of that performance should be good enough to win this. Hillstar is a horse I’ve never liked and it seems like Ryan Moore doesn’t either, he would of had the choice.

This doesn’t look like a tough race to win and if the faster ground bring about improvement in Telescope I expect him to win this well.

Slade Power has leading form claims in this race, but his best winning form is on softer ground. I expect him to run well, but at the prices he isn’t one for me. Medicean Man has strong form claim after his 4th in the Al Quoz sprint and 4th in the Kings’ Stand on Tuesday. Hot Streak was favourite on Tuesday and he actually ran better than I thought he would. It may pay to side with one of the three-year olds again here, especially with the weight allowance.

Due Diligence has won all three of his starts over six furlongs, on his last start he had Sudirman back in fourth, he ran a really poor race, so I don’t really like the look of that form. The horse I like is ASTAIRE, he won a Group One last year with the well thought of Hot Streak in second. That’s a good form line, his form can also be enhanced by a credible run against Kingman and Night of Thunder in The Greenham. That was over seven furlongs, which was too far for him, but he travelled very nicely until the final furlong. Last time out he was back over six furlongs in a Group Two at ¬†York where he finished 2nd to mudlover Maarek on soft ground. He had Es Que Love, Jack Dexter and Tropics all in behind, there’s no reason to think that form will be reversed today.

10/1 is a massive price for a horse that has good form in the book and is still entitled to improve on what he has shown.
