OSAILIA ran a credible 5th in The Albany, over course and distance last month. She then followed that up with a win at Doncaster by three lengths. That form puts her at the top of my ratings for this race with her main danger being Muraaqaba. The Mark Johnston horse won her only start last month by 3 1/4 lengths, however she was given the run of the race that day. She was given the lead and set a slow pace, she quickened of it well, but I have the feeling that she’ll be caught if she tries that today. Osailia showed an impressive turn of foot last time out and this race could pan out perfectly for her.

I want to oppose the market leaders in this race. Telescope hasn’t really done anything wrong in his career, however he’s never raced in a Group 1 and despite looking visual impressive over course and distance at The Royal Meeting, I’m just not convinced that he wins this race 27 times out of 100.

Oaks winner Taghrooda receives 15lbs from the older horses today, we’re at the time of the year where weight for ages is starting to be taken into account, however it’s less useful here then it is in the Arc in October. She’s looked good in winning her three races so far, but the form of what’s finished in behind her doesn’t enhance her profile. On the clock she hasn’t shown much and I’d rather back Romsdal, who only has to concede 3lbs, to confirm that The Derby form is stronger that the Oaks, therefore at the prices she isn’t one for me.

The horse I want to side with is MAGICIAN. He has Group One form in the book, when winning the Breeders Cup Turf on fast ground over 12 furlongs last year. His last run was in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Ascot last month, he was 2nd that day, but still came inside the previous course record.

On what any of these horses have achieved in their careers so far, especially over 12 furlongs on quick ground, Magician leads the way. At the moment he is the best horse in the race and has the least question marks over him. The rest will need to improve to beat him, which they may do, however at the prices he’s worth taking the chance that he can hold his level of form.
