The flat season starts properly today, which means the coming months will be spent discussing breeding, improvement and draw/pace bias. my first bet of the season is in The Nell Gwyn Stakes.
I’m going to keep this relatively short as there’s only one horse that jumped off the page to me. That horse is TERROR, she finished a good fourth over six furlongs in the group one Cheveley Park Stakes last year, with Tiggy Wiggy, Anthem Alexander and High Celebrity in front of her. Six furlongs may be too quick for this horse based on her breeding, so the step up to seven furlongs should suit.
Of the other Beautiful Romance was so impressive when winning over a mile at Doncaster on debut last year, but this is a drop back in trip and on breeding she looks to be one that would prefer further.
Lady Correspondent wasn’t as impressive as Beautiful Romance on her debut, despite winning. However again she is one, strictly on breeding who may prefer further.
Osaila had a lot of racing last year, she won a group three on at Ascot in July in really well. In my book she rates the biggest danger to my selection, however a heavy two year old campaign may have taken it’s toll, therefore I’m wary of backing her first time out.
The form of New Providence and Marsh Hawk tie in closely based on their run at Salisbury and I can see them both giving a good account of themselves today.
This looks to be a good race, with plenty of potential Guineas, Oaks and Royal Ascot clues (watch out for news of Lady Eli), but I’d have Terror shorter int he betting that what she currently is so that’s where my money is going.
