The Stoute stable think a lot of CANNOCK CHASE and so do I, despite not backing him in either of his group races so far, I think today is the day to follow.

I thought that he would have needed the run last time out at Sandown, in a very competitive race. Western Hymn and Postponed will be looking to win Group Ones this year, so long term hos form behind them should stack up. I’m expecting him to improve on that outing which means he should have too much for these.

Windhoek is consistent, but he has to give away 5lbs to the rest of the field, that coupled with the wide draw means I’m putting a line through him.

There’s been a little bit of hype around Air Pilot, who finished third in a Group Three at Newmarket last year. However a wider draw and this being his first run of the season, makes me want to oppose him. If the stable think that he’s a Group One horse, then like Cannock Chase at Sandown he may need the run.

With an inside draw, the benefit of a prep run behind two decent horses and odds greater than 2.50 (6/4), Cannock Chase has to be my selection.

Hans Holbein was impressive when winning a maiden last time out, coming from a stable that traditionally do well in this race he has to be respected. However at 3.25 (9/4) I want to take him on. Future Empire is next in the betting, he struggled with the track at Epsom last time out, so I don’t really want to be backing him on another track that has a camber.

My selection in this race is TANNAAF, he finished fourth behind Cape Clear Island, who ran a good second in a Classic Trial at Sandown last month and would have finished closer to him, maybe even beaten him with a clear run at Newmarket. With him having the draw advantage from stall two he should get a clearer passage, at 6.50 he is the bet to have here.
