Unfortunately Sole Power and Pretend don’t run in this, they were keeping the prices up on some of the other runners. HOT STREAK is my selection here, he won this race last year when he had Pearl Secret, Kingsgate Native, Justice Day and Jack Dexter all in behind. That was then followed with a third placed finish in the Kings’ Stand at Royal Ascot, that day he had Jack Dexter, Take Cover, Pearl Secret and Justice Day finishing behind him.
He had seven races last season, for that reason I’m prepared to put a line through his final two starts of 2014. Six furlongs doesn’t appear to be his trip, so it was no surprise to see him weaken in the final furlong of The Sprint Cup. He finished fifteen of eighteen in the Prix de l’Abbaye, however the whole field finished in a bunch that day and he was bout three lengths from the winner.
He made his seasonal reappearance at Longchamp earlier this month, where he finished third just getting tired in the final half a furlong. However, he had Pearl Secret behind him again that day.
G Force is a highly though of sprinter, but he has to carry a penalty for winning a six furlong group one so I have to oppose him on that basis. Danzeno is being dropped back in trip for the first time in his career, having never raced above Group Three level or at this trip, he’s another I want to oppose.
Goldream won The Palace House Stakes at the beginning of the month with a career best effort, but I feel he’ll need to improve on that again if the likes of Hot Streak and G Force show somewhere near their best form. Being six years old and already having twenty-nine starts I’m not sure there’s a lot more to come. Just strictly on a line through Justice Day, Hot streak should have him held.
I’m taking a positive view of Hot Streaks early season form from last year, he’s had a run so should be race fit and has already beaten most of today’s rivals. He’s a course and distance winner and should be helped by the high draw. It’s a shame that Sole Power and Pretend aren’t in the race, so that we could get a bigger price, but without them two in the race I thought he’d be a 4.50 (7/2) chance at the most.
