TALMADA finished second to Secret Gesture last time out in the Group Two Middleton stakes at York earlier this month. That is the best recent form available in this race, she had Group One winners Ribbons and Madam Chiang in behind. Bragging finished sixth that day and on a line through that Talmada should have the beating Kleo, who finished second to Bragging in the Dahlia Stakes at the start of the month.

Queen of Ice has won on her final two starts of last season, both at Listed level. She’s only had one attempt at a Group race, in which she finished fifth in last years Musidora Stakes, which was won by Madam Chaing, who finished behind Talmada last time out.

Looking back at last years Ribblesdale Stakes, Talmada finished behind Lustrous, Criteria and Wonderstruck. However Lustrous and Criteria both finished a long way behind Miss Marjurie at Goodwood four weeks ago and I have her some way below the level I think Talmada is.

I expect we’ll see Talmada tracking Queen of Ice who will attempt to make all, these two could get an easy lead and be the ones to fight it out at the finish. However my preference is for the course and distance winner who has 2015 form in the book.

I’m going to take a chance with ALJAMAAHEER in this race. He’s not a horse who particularly likes to win, but on his day he’s capable of some excellent performances and seven furlongs is his trip. He’s ¬†been placed in a number of Group One races over the years, so the ability is there it’s just a case of putting it all together.

He’ll have to reverse for with Angsar, but he gets 5lbs from him so I expect to overturn that half length defeat from last year. He was a short head behind current favourite Breton Rock, who finished second in this race last year, in The Lockinge a couple of weeks ago, it won’t take a lot to overturn that margin.

Cable Bay finished ahead of the selection in The Lockinge, but was down the field behind Angsar and Aljamaaheer when they raced over seven furlongs in the Park Stakes last year.

At the price I’m happy to take the risk on Aljamaaheer, it’s a tough race to win but he has the ability to beat this field.

There is no point over complicating this race. LIMATO is on course to be the next sprinting superstar. He beat Mattmu, conceding weight last year and has already beaten Adaay twice in his career. Beacon, Burnt Sugar and Markaz couldn’t get near him at Ascot in April, so that’s over half of today’s opponents who he already has superiority over.

Limato should be an odds-on shot in my book, so the 2.10 (11/10) is a good enough bet for me.
