When the entries for this race first came out I was drawn to Bragging, however I didn’t expect her to be 2.75 (7/4) in the betting. She’s too short a price for me, so I’m looking elsewhere for my bet in this race.

Ribbons has Group One form when winning in Deauville last year, then following that up with a seocnd placed finish in another Group One at Longchamps on arc day. She appears to need some give in the ground and carries a penalty here for winning that Group One and that’s what puts me off backing her today.

SECRET GESTURE is my selection,  she finished behind Ribbons at Deauville on very soft ground, but today’s conditions should suit. She has finished second in The Oaks and third in a Yorkshire Oaks. She goes well fresh and has placed form around York. At 7.00 (6/1) I think that she is worth the risk.

ELM PARK should be favourite for this race. He won the Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket, before going on to win the Group One Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. That is the best form on offer in this race and if he was trained by Aiden O’Brien he’d be a 2.75 (7/4) shot for this race, at least.

Jack Hobbs is the current favourite for this race and the Derby, but that is all based on a Handicap win, when odds-on at Sandown last month. Yes, the win was impressive but it’s a big step up in class for this horse today and I don’t want to be backing him against a horse that has done nothing wrong in group company.

John F Kennedy was highly thought of, but has now failed at odds-on twice. The ground may have been against him at Leopardstown last time out and he may come on for the run, but I cannot be backing him for a race as competitive as this.

Nafaqa was behind Elm Park in The Royal Lodge stakes and I expect that form to be confirmed again today. Ol’ man River is a beautiful looking horse and he didn’t show anything like he probably can over a trip that is probably to short for him in the 2000 Guineas last time out. I think that he’ll improve massively for that run if each-way betting is your thing, he’s defiantly worth a look at 11.0 (10/1).

Elm Park is the bet to be having though, despite not having a run this season he should be fit, due to him being ready for The 2000 Guineas, only to be pulled out late because of the ground. He has the best form in the book and looks like the step up in trip will bring further improvement.
