There is only one horse I was ever going to back in this race and that is BROWN PANTHER. He looked better than ever when winning The Dubai Gold Cup from a wide draw last time out. He has to concede weight all round, however I believe that his class will show through here. He won two Group Threes at the start of last season and finally got his Group One win when landing the Irish St Leger, by 6.5 lengths, over this trip. He had the 2013 English St Leger and 2014 Ascot Gold Cup winner behind him in second that day and if he’s on that form then nothing in this field should be able to live with him.
Romsdal can probably be forgiven his run last time out, as they messed around with his tactics and the step up in trip should suit. My concern with him is that he may not be as good as we thought he was, the form of that last race doesn’t look too great now with the fourth getting beaten by 27 lengths last week and the second placed horse being beaten 18 lengths the week before.
Snow Sky is a frustrating horse for me, as I’m never on the right side of him. I think he’s a horse that will improve throughout the year and on his seasonal reappearance I would rather be against him. He also finished behind Romsdal in the St Leger last year, so a bit like Romsdal he’ll need to show a lot of improvement if Brown Panther is on his game today.
