York Dante Festival – Day 2

My flat season started on a positive note yesterday, with Magical Memory winning for me at 3.75. Fireglow, 6.00, was beaten into second by So Di Mar, but there’s no shame in that as she looks to be a top Group One filly.

From a breeding point of view I don’t think there’s a better horse around at the moment than MIDTERM. He’s sired by Galileo, Champion Sire for the last six years and is the first  foal of six time Group one winner, seven times placed at Group One level  mare Midday.

I’ve been banging on about this horse on  for sometime now, I’ve been backing it for The Derby and haven’t seen anything to change my opinion that he’s going to be top class.

He won the Sandown Classic trial in a relatively quicker time than anything else on the card and was pulling away at the end.

Better ground, experience and the very slightly longer trip should bring about more improvement. If he’s good enough to win The Derby, then he should be going very close in this.

Foundation is a horse that I don’t see staying The Derby trip, so this distance will be more to his liking. However he was beaten at odds-on in The Racing Post Trophy last year, the form of which hasn’t worked out well. He was then beaten again at Newmarket on his seasonal reappearance, which again hasn’t worked out well.

I thought that Midterm would be near the 2.00 mark in this race, certainly no bigger than 2.25. Like I said earlier, I expect this horse to win The Derby and Derby winners should be a short price to win The Dante.

BACK MIDTERM at 2.50 (General)
